SPECIAL BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING – April 30, 2015

 

Board President, Ranee Seastrom, called the special meeting of the Board of Education of Mission Valley USD #330 to order at 6:30 p.m. in the board conference room in Eskridge, Kansas.  Board members present were Jon Deters, Jim Browning, Clinton Lambotte, Rex Kraus, Jim Rudeen, and Brian Rindt.  The superintendent, board clerk and deputy board clerk also attended.

 

Brian Rindt moved, seconded by Rex Kraus, to approve the agenda as presented.   Motion passed unanimously.

 

The purpose of this special meeting was to consider bids for summer construction projects and personnel matters.

 

Clinton Lambotte moved, seconded by Ranee Seastrom, to approve the base bid + Alt 2 (electrical modifications) from Senne Company for completion of summer construction at the cost of $281,950.  Motion passed 4 to 3 with Clinton Lambotte, Brian Rindt, Ranee Seastrom and Jon Deters voting yes and Jim Rudeen, Jim Browning and Rex Kraus voting no.

 

Ranee Seastrom moved, seconded by Brian Rindt, to go into executive session at 7:00 p.m. to discuss employer-employee negotiations in order to protect the district’s right to the confidentiality of its negotiating positions and the public interest in negotiating a fair and equitable contract, and that they return to open session in the same room at 7:20 p.m.  Motion passed unanimously.  The superintendent and Bill Clark also attended.

 

The meeting reconvened in open session at 7:20 p.m.

 

Ranee Seastrom moved, seconded by Brian Rindt, to go back into executive session at 7:20 p.m. to discuss employer-employee negotiations in order to protect the district’s right to the confidentiality of its negotiating positions and the public interest in negotiating a fair and equitable contract, and that they return to open session in the same room at 7:40 p.m.  Motion passed unanimously.  The superintendent and Bill Clark also attended.

 

The meeting reconvened in open session at 7:40 p.m.

 

Ranee Seastrom moved, seconded by Jim Rudeen, to go back into executive session at 7:45 p.m. to discuss employer-employee negotiations in order to protect the district’s right to the confidentiality of its negotiating positions and the public interest in negotiating a fair and equitable contract, and that they return to open session in the same room at 8:15 p.m.  Motion passed unanimously.  The superintendent, board clerk, deputy board clerk and Bill Clark also attended.

 

At 7:56 p.m. the board clerk and deputy board clerk left executive session.


At 8:06 p.m. the superintendent and Bill Clark left executive session.

 

The meeting reconvened in open session at 8:15 p.m.

 

Ranee Seastrom moved, seconded by Brian Rindt, to go back into executive session at 8:16 p.m. to discuss employer-employee negotiations in order to protect the district’s right to the confidentiality of its negotiating positions and the public interest in negotiating a fair and equitable contract, and that they return to open session in the same room at 8:36 p.m.  Motion passed unanimously. 

 

At 8:20 p.m. the superintendent entered executive session.

 

At 8:24 p.m. the superintendent left executive session.

 

At 8:25 p.m. the superintendent entered executive session.

 

At 8:26 p.m. the superintendent left executive session.

 

At 8:27 p.m. the superintendent entered executive session.

 

At 8:28 p.m. the superintendent left executive session.

 

The meeting reconvened in open session @ 8:36 p.m.

 

Ranee Seastrom moved, seconded by Rex Kraus, to eliminate the Title I Aide position and to decrease the FTE of the High School and Elementary Media Specialists to 0.5 positions.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

Ranee Seastrom moved, seconded by Jim Rudeen, to go into executive session at 8:40 p.m. to discuss personnel matters of non-elected personnel in order to protect the privacy interests of the individuals to be discussed, and that they return to open session in the same room at 8:45 p.m.  Motion passed 6 to 0.  The superintendent and Bill Clark also attended.

 

At 8:43 p.m. Clinton Lambotte left executive session.

 

The meeting reconvened in open session at 8:45 p.m.

 

Clinton Lambotte left the meeting at 8:50 p.m.

 

Rex Kraus moved, seconded by Jim Rudeen, to accept the following personnel actions: resignation of Chelsea Vortherms as 1st Grade Teacher; resignation of Tracy Konda as High School Assistant Baseball Coach; resignation of Drew Steffen as SPED Teacher, Asst. High School Football Coach, Head Junior High Basketball Coach, Head High


School Girls Track Coach and Summer Weights Instructor; resignation of Shelby Steffen as Para-Educator and High School Football Coach; employment contract with Dylan Partridge as Junior High Math teacher effective with the 2015-16 school year; hiring of Mary Anderson as MIS Clerk; hiring of Kathy Hildebrand for summer 2015 maintenance; hiring of Deanna Kemp for summer 2015 Maintenance; hiring of Tara Durkin as girls summer weights instructor; and hiring of Vickie Lambotte as the E2020 Online Curriculum Coordinator and E2020 Summer School Aide.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

Clinton Lambotte rejoined the meeting at 8:51 p.m.

 

Jim Browning moved, seconded by Brian Rindt, to go into executive session at 8:51 p.m. to discuss personnel matters of non-elected personnel in order to protect the privacy interests of the individuals to be discussed, and that they return to open session in the same room at 8:56 p.m.  Motion passed unanimously.  The superintendent and Bill Clark also attended.

 

The meeting reconvened in open session at 8:56 p.m.

 

Brian Rindt moved, seconded by Ranee Seastrom, to adjourn the meeting.  Motion passed unanimously.  Meeting adjourned at 8:56 p.m.
