Believe it or not school has been out for almost a month and the summer is full speed ahead. I hope everyone is busy enjoying their summer vacations, ballgames, swimming, free time, etc., as time off from school provides a lot of fun opportunities for students and families. With students gone the school is busy as the building undergoes a full cleaning with updates throughout during the summer months. Before students left we kicked off our summer reading program as students and staff ready themselves for the coming school year. This summer reading program focuses on “minutes read” as we would like to encourage everyone to read for just a short period of time daily. During our kickoff event a few of our 5th grade students explained the benefits of reading and looking to lead by example throughout the summer. I know I’m looking forward to the progress made as our students continue to invest themselves in learning throughout the summer months. This summer, myself and 14 other staff members will be meeting soon as we will be reading “Ditch That Textbook” by Matt Miller. We are looking forward to challenging ourselves to read just as our students are this summer. I will be sending out reading letters again throughout the summer and will recognize students that are reading if parents will please just send me an email. I look forward to hearing what students are reading or other summer events they would like to share with me as well. I look forward to hearing back from students and enjoy your summer events that are planned in the near future.
