MESSAGE FROM MRS. AMY JOHNSTON, PRINCIPAL

Greetings Mission Valley Vikings!

My name is Amy Johnston and it is my honor and privilege to serve as your Elementary principal. I grew up just outside Dover and graduated from Mission Valley in 1997. I then pursued an elementary education degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood from Emporia State University. For the next 18 years, I taught Preschool, Kindergarten, and 2nd grade at Auburn Elementary and for one year at Whitson Elementary, USD 501 as an Instructional Coach. In August of 2019, I came back to the Viking family as Elementary Principal. Over those years, I added a Master’s Degree in Instructional Design & Technology from ESU and a Certification in Building Administration from FHSU. I also earned my National Board Certification as an Early Childhood Generalist.

Our whole family comes to MV daily!  Ryan, my husband, as Facility Maintenance Supervisor, and our three kids, Clara, Grace & Joel, as students. As a family, we enjoy Mexican food, relaxing at home, and attending the many activities in which our kids participate.

My favorite part of being a principal is having the opportunity to welcome students in the morning and working every day with top-notch staff that want the best for each of our students, their families, and our community. Our Viking staff knows that creating a relationship with our families and communicating often with successes, struggles and questions is essential and encourage the same from our families and community.

I look forward to seeing you around school and the community!

Sincerely,

Amy Johnston

Elementary Principal
