April is Autism Awareness Month and begins today celebrating World Autism Awareness Day by wearing blue. The puzzle ribbon is another way to show support for Autism. -Did you know that according to the CDC (Center for Disease Control) that Autism is one of the fastest growing developmental disabilities? -Autism is more than 4.5 times more common among boys. The CDC estimates 1 in 42 boys have Autism and 1 in 189 for girls. -Parents of a child with Autism, have a 2-18% of a second child having Autism, as well as children born to older parents. -Most children diagnosed with Autism have an average to above average intellectual ability. -Families with a child who has Autism, have medical expenditures of $4,000-$6,000 above a family without. In addition to medical bills, families can have additional costs associated with behavior interventions, lost wages of a parent, counseling, and special education. Please support Parents that have children with Autism through the time, and educational supports that you can provide. For more information, there are lots of online resources that provide education, resources and information about Autism. https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/autism/data.html https://bit.ly/2Eefl8h https://bit.ly/2J8R2wh
