Students, I wanted to reach out to you all and thank you for all of your hard work during our distance learning situation over the past couple of weeks. I am very proud of how the vast majority of you took on this challenge and did a great job!  I know this is not the ideal situation for learning, but when faced with adversity, and challenges in life all you can do is take them head-on with a positive attitude and do your best. I am very proud to be your principal, and I appreciate all of you giving me a chance so far this year as we get to know each other.  I want nothing more than for you all to be here in the school every day for the rest of the year and be allowed to participate in all of your desired activities. You have all lost something during your high school career in 2020, and it will take all of us working together to make sure you do not lose any more opportunities.   Every day is a new day with new challenges and opportunities to improve...what you do with those opportunities will be what defines you in the present and future. I continue to brag about how great our student body is at Mission Valley and how much fun I am having being here despite all of the COVID-related challenges we have faced so far.  I am here for YOU, so please let me know what I can do to suppport you! per·se·ver·ance - doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. I am extremely proud to be a Viking, and I will do anything and everything I can for you as my door is always open to students!  I am excited to see you all back in the building on Monday, November 30th!  Happy Thanksgiving!

For the past two years our Elementary students have worked together to create and donate homemade blankets for children in need through Project Linus. Project Linus is a non-profit organization started in 1995 for children who might be seriously ill, traumatized, or just need the comfort of a blanket. We are so proud of our Viking students for working together to provide other children some comfort.

We would like to invite our K-6 grade students to our Pajama Day, tomorrow, November 24. We have activities planned for students to wear comfy clothes and pj's would be perfect! Also, if students would like to bring a stuffed animal and blanket, the only request is that it fit inside their book bag.

JUNIORS ONLY - If you want to take the 'free to you' ACT or ACT Workkeys (or both) in February, I need you to be signed up on the list.  The list has to be submitted to KSDE on 12/1/2020. The ACT helps with the admissions process to colleges/universities.  The higher you score on your ACT means you are more apt to receive academic scholarship money from the attending college/university.  The higher you score on your ACT means you are also apt to not have to take 'pre or intro' courses.  Taking 'pre or intro' courses costs you more money and more time towards graduating with your degree. The ACT Workkeys is important for any students who may want to go to Vo-Tech or Community College's.  This assessment is similar to the Accuplacer. Please email me at jhancock@mv330.org if you want to take either (or both) of these assessments. I recommend the Juniors take both. Better to have and not need it, then need it and not have it.

Viking Families----The following information was released today (11/13/20) from Wabaunsee County Emergency Management. Wabaunsee County currently has 98 residents who have tested positive and are isolated with Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19). This is a significant increase in a very short amount of time. While this total includes some residents and staff in the Eskridge Care & Rehabilitation Center, most active cases are in the general population. These cases have now impacted all three school districts, government offices and services, and some businesses. As a result, this week, the County Commissioners, acting as the County Health Board, took two actions: *First, they issued a local health order reducing the size of mass gatherings to 45 people in both indoor and outdoor settings. Exceptions may be granted to those who complete a special event permit, including a Health Department-approved mitigation plan. *Second, they instituted a mandatory mask policy for all public business at the Courthouse and in all other County offices and buildings. All members of the public must have a mask in these locations and County employees will wear a mask during their interaction with the public. Both of these actions went into effect on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 6:00am. In addition, due to staffing shortfalls, the County Health Department is closed to the public through November 20, 2020. All Wabaunsee County residents are reminded to exercise caution. The Center for Disease Control encourages each person to consider people, space, and time each time they make a decision to leave their home. How many people will you be around? In what kind of setting (e.g., indoor, outdoor, with proper social distancing)? And, for how long? Consideration of these measures will help reduce exposure to all residents and will prevent school closures, business closures, and other disruptions to the community. For additional questions, contact Amy Terrapin at aterrapin@wbcounty.org.
