This is a reminder that Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas is sponsoring a Kids Summer Food Program in Eskridge & Harveyville this summer from June 4th-July27th. The Kids Summer Food Program: Feeds children for FREE! There are no income requirements or registration. Is in partnership with the USDA and the Kansas Department of Education. Provides healthy food options to children and is approved by the USDA Each site has fun, kid-friendly activities, including games, crafts & books. Parents who accompany their children are also eligible to receive a FREE lunch. NO sign up necessary. NO ID required. Children up to 18 years of age are welcome to eat for FREE! At the June 11th Board of Education meeting the Board voted to move forward with implementing a Random Drug Testing Program at the 7th-12th grade levels. The Random Drug Testing program will not become official until the Board of Education takes final action to approve the proposed policy that is being created. The next regular scheduled board meeting is set for Monday, July 23, 2018 @ 7 p.m. The information that was received from the Random Drug Testing Survey this Spring, which was completed by 275 parent(s)/patron(s), identified that 75% of the respondents indicated some level of concern of drug use at Mission Valley with 35% of respondents reporting that they are extremely concerned. In addition, 60% of the respondents indicated that they believed a random drug testing program should be implemented at Mission Valley. The survey also indicated that over 50% felt that a public meeting should be held to discuss this information. On Thursday, July 12th @ 6:30 p.m. an informational meeting will be held at Mission Valley. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss and provide information about the proposed Random Drug Testing policy. For more information, please check under the News section on the school website.

We have lots of FFA News to share from their State Convention at K-State. Congratulation to our 4 state proficiency award winners, 4 state degree recipients, and 1 national FFA scholarship winners. Proficiency winners are--Bailey Hittle-Ag Sales, Rob Phillips -Diversified Ag, Mateo Lisk-Environmental Science, and Tanner Walker-Wildlife Production and Management. State Degrees-Rachel Halupa, Mateo Lisk, Garrett Falk and Mason Kuntz. Scholarship winner-Mateo Lisk We have 14 MV FFA members that have qualified for nationals. We have others through Agriscience and SAE based ventures that we will find out about in August. Ashton McGinley, Karlee Godfrey, Allie Linhart, Benjamin Rudeen, Paige Sims and McKenzie Shives were recognized for placing first in the State Novice Parliamentary Procedure Leadership Development Event (LDE). Lizzy Anderson, Sarah Tennison and Brogan Area, placed first in the Marketing Plan Career Development Event (CDE). Congratulations to our Mission Valley FFA and Teachers!
