GO VIKINGS---BE SAFE!

Viking Family---It was with great honor that USD 330 Mission Valley staff were welcomed back on Tuesday morning by an instrumental leader of education in the state of Kansas. Mr. Dennis has served in a variety of education roles during his career which started in 1959. Mr. Dennis has worked as a classroom teacher, a school administrator, and in 1967 he took over as the School Finance Administrator for the State of Kansas and since then has served in a variety of positions (Assistant Commissioner of Education, Deputy Commissioner of Education, Interim Commissioner of Education, and since 2007 has served as the Deputy Commissioner of Education). Mr. Dennis is a "true friend" of students and education.
Mr. Dennis provided Viking Staff words of appreciation, encouragement and wisdom that can only be passed on from 60+ years serving the youth of Kansas.
GO VIKINGS!!!

Viking Family........Installation of the new OBERHELMAN FAMILY FIELD is almost complete. Crews are are in the final phases of installing the turf and are planning to begin adding the infill "cushion" tomorrow. We know there are many excited Vikings out there who are interested in getting out on the field and seeing it up-close first hand.....please continue to be patient as they finalize everything. Everyone is more than welcome to drive down Bodark Rd and take a look at it, however we ask to use caution as there are many pieces of equipment along the road and in the football parking lot.
GO VIKINGS!

Taking on the challenge of becoming a Kagan certified district will not come fast or easy, but it will be worth it! MV is excited to announce that we will be offering an After School Care program for students in grades PK-6th from 3:30-5:45 pm all days MV is in session all day. The daily cost for one child will be $5/day and can be paid with cash or a check made out to MV. Families are required to prepay for 10 days ($50/child) before their child can begin. Once you've used all ten days, another 10 days ($50) must be paid before your child can continue. Students can attend daily or periodically as long as they have a positive balance in their After School Care account. If you would like your child to attend the first day, you must fill out the MV After School Program Registration Form and drop off payment at the school by Tues, Aug 22nd Back to School Night. Once we have your registration, more details will be shared about other details and pick-up locations. If this is going to be your child's regular end-of-day routine, please let the elementary office know. You can email ajohnston@mv330.org if you have any questions.

Greetings,
Welcome to the beginning of the 2023 school year! To prepare for our first day of school, I would like to invite all currently enrolled 6th-12th grade band members and parents/guardians to meet on Tuesday, August 22nd 4:45-5:30pm to get our instruments checked out, cubbies assigned and a COMBINED JH/HS pep band rehearsal. Manning Music will have a display set up and will be answering questions about students' musical needs. School instrument rentals will be assigned by availability and require a signed agreement form (provided at check-out). Students are highly encouraged to stay and perform at the pep rally at the end of our open house event. Thank you all for your continued support of the Mission Valley Music department, I'm looking forward to a very exciting year!

Viking Family---Here are some additional pictures from the Vocational Ag renovation, new CTE wing construction, and new sidewalk work at Mission Valley. Viking Family---Jadwin Construction continues to work on preparing the site for the new softball and baseball fields. Over the course of the next several weeks you will see more and more of the shapes of the field come together. Crews will work to install the drainage system, underground infrastructure, and some areas of concrete. The goal is to move this part of the facility project along in a timely manner so that sod is ready to be installed hopefully by mid-September and the grass will be ready to be played on Spring 2024.

Viking Family----NO a new city has not risen out of the ground and NO we are not being visited by anyone from another planet, however if you drive by Mission Valley over the course of the next several days and nights there is a good chance that you will see the new lighting fired up for the football field and track. Torgeson Electric is finalizing the installation and testing of the lighting system. To ensure that everything is working properly the lights may remain on for long periods of time which includes leaving them on overnight. Feel free to drive by and take a look at the new lighting system.....you will be amazed! PS---The future is so bright...you might need shades!

Viking Family----This morning at 7 a.m. the first load of turf rolled into Viking Country and started to be unloaded. This afternoon crews from United Sports started the installation process which will continue for the next couple weeks with the goal to have the Oberhelman Family Field complete on Monday, August 28th. During the turf installation process next week, Bettis Asphalt will begin laying asphalt for the new track which is expected to be fully complete the first part of September.
If you happen to cross paths with any of the workers from the many companies working on any of our projects please give them a big Viking "Thank You".

Students/Parents: ACT District Testing is 10/17/23. Cost is $43 (regularly $60). Also, the ACT Workkeys is in October, & is FREE to juniors. It provides a job readiness certificate & can be used for students seeking employment. It is also a vital part of the Individual Plan of Study (IPS) process. If you or you want your child to take either assessment, please email me at jhancock@mv330.org. I will have sign-up sheets for both of these assessments on the first day of school as well.
